88 560SL interior light

Hello All,

I have noticed that the interior light on my 88 560 SL is only coming on when the passenger side door has been opened. No luck on the driver door. Is the door switch a common failure? Any other odd relay I should be looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Light

Hi John

I had the exact same problem with the passenger door on my 300SL last week - it was the push switch in the door pillar which the door operates (should operate!) on opening and closing - just a simple squirt of contact cleaner spray cured my problem ( might work with WD40 or similar).

Cheers

Jim

Same issue on my '87 560SL. Won't light when the driver door opens, but the light pops on when I turn the push pin slightly with my fingers. I need to dig out the contact cleaner and give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!!!!

I had both side switches fail on my '86.
You can simply pry them out for test/repair.
If the cleaner doesn't work, you can take them apart by drilling out the rivets.
I cleaned the mechanism and reassembled them with #6 sheet metal screws in place of the rivets.
