Plastic Window Replacement
Is it possible just to have the three plastice windows replaced or does the entire soft top need to go as well? I believe that my soft top will far out live those plastic windows, especially the rear.

Dale,
I think you can replace the window section of the soft top and not the entire top. I recall reading someone mentioning it on the forum, maybe it was MBenz when he was updating his 90 to 97. 87 W124 95 R129 98 W163 |
MBenz has done it, and I had it done to mine...rear window never got a chance to turn yellow, as it cracked last winter.

Thanks......I appreciate the info:) :)

Replacement of the three plastic "windows" is certainly possible, without replacing the entire or partial soft top. In fact, my shop (not official MB dealer) had a local upholstery service replace mine. They apparently just break the stitching on the originals, and sew in new material. The replacement is NOT MB material, but it looks fine and I'm generally pleased. I'm not sure of the cost, since my shop did it as part of another fix they owed me, but it has to be cheaper than an MB dealer, who may or may not do such a partial replacement. Good luck!

Renewal of the rear half with the three plastic windows is possible...
Here is a pic of the new and old rear half of my 300SL: http://communities.msn.nl/_Secure/0L...M/verdeck2.JPG Note the extreme yellow/blind windows in the old half...I couldn't see a single thing through these "windows" and one of the smaller sides was even cracked.
