cruise control repair report

Yes! Yes! Yes! Cruise control finally. 1988 560SL

Symptoms: Total lack of function.
First repair attempt: Resoldering of cc amp PC card. Results negative.
Second attempt: Replace cc PC card. Results positive.
Part source: ebay, cost $45.50 + $10.00 shipping for a used but "tested good" unit.

Tip: Although this is a repair accomplished by many, my method may be different. Instead of removing the amplifier assembly or the bracket to which it attaches, I pried the tabs on the cases open, slid the old card out and replaced it with the new card in the old case while in place. Recrimped edges and good to go.

When I pull spare amps from pick and pull yards on W123 types I smash through the fuse panel under the hood with a hammer and reach in and unbolt it. Simple as pie!

The cruise control amplifier is mounted on an aluminum plate that is held in place by one bolt if you remove the bolt the whole thing drops down and you can then unscrew the amplifier

it is not an easy bolt to get to, and it is often very tight.
