Bleeding Brakes on a '95 SL 500?
 

Anyone know if I HAVE to use a Mercedes Shop special brake bleeder to bleed my brakes? Bought this car about a year ago and want to change the brake fluid the "old fashion" way. Have someone press the brake pedal while I crack open the bleeders, Is this feasible or do I have to bite the buillet with the dealer or the Indy? Thanks, Steve

I bled mine by just cracking all the bleeders, and letting them run out. I did watch the reservoir though, and as it approaches empty, dump the new stuff in, and the rear reservoir is hard to see, and you have to pretty much fill the front up to get it to overflow into the rear.

Bleeding SL500 brakes?
 

I don't have the "quasi" shop manual in front of me, but I rememberr reading that you had to disconnect something or another from the master cylinder in order to do these brakes, some kind of valve or screw or something like that and I am afraid to mess something up as important as braking. I would obtain the euro brake bleeder but is there anything else that needs to be disabled on the master cylinder

Alldata says that you need to "activate" the switchover valve (y61) on the master cylinder, then use a power bleeder at 2 bar. I haven't done this, but I would guess you need to unplug the connector and give the valve power and ground.

Yahoo, double-checked, that's what it says, alldata is quite reliable.

Then double check your equipment will reliably withstand 2 bar. I have seen a pressure bleeder come apart, and it aint pretty.

Also agree. I replaced the hoses and clamps on my Motive bleeder with heavier-duty stuff.

Other weak points are the various seals on the reservoir and between the reservoir and the MC.
