SL seats...Whats a good price for used ones?

My seats are shot... 75 450sl...horsehair is crumbling, leather is worn, and stitching is pulling....anyways a guy has a set of blue from a 78 sl.... says they are in mint condition and are leather with armrest.. he wants $1000....is that a good price??? I think its high but It would cost me like $1500 to redo mine myself with all new leather and pads... I already have my pass seat disasembled....not a hard job....any suggestions? thanks - Joe

How could 1978s be in mint condition? That doesn't sound right.

If they are as good as he says and the hides are still soft, no rips or tears, good horse hair ect and they are the right color for you...it'll be cheaper and less time consuming than re-doing yours. It's basically a hassle free parts swap job, 8 bolts and you're done. You have no idea as to if his seats were ever redone but it sounds like they were at some point in time. If you did yours you'd know how old all the materials are...age does play into the natural degradation of all things. If you plan on keeping the car long term, I'd have yours redone as you'll know what you have. A little more expense but virtually new seats.

a grand is rather high for a used seat or two. There are no shortage of these cars around. Haggle a bit. Like to half the price.

Check germanex imports for new leather covers. That's the least expensive place I've found.

keep looking- for a grand you can buy a SL not running if you look hard enough...Did you ever consider Real Sheepskins? I got a set and they are terrific-especially in the heat...
