Looking at a 73 450sl... Don't know why

A 73 450SL was recently posted up for sale in my backyard, and I have to take a look at the very least.

The seller has been storing the car indoors for the last 9 years. Depending on the paint and body, it may only be valuable for parts. If it looks good, then... who knows...

I know 73 is the first year of the V8 SL, and it should have small euro bumpers.

Anything else I need to know? Any parts of particular value?

Bumpers.

D-jet injection parts.

Interior bits like the sun visors, console, and seats.

It's the second year of the V8s, but should have small bumpers, the last year for small U.S. bumpers.

Talked to the seller for quite a bit today. Apparently 11 years ago the seller drove the car to a body shop to have a dent in the fender knocked out, just after he spent over $1000 on a new soft top. The car sat outside for 2 years (with the hard top on) while waiting for the job to get done, but the business went belly up. The person I spoke to on the phone has been storing it for him ever since.

I may go look at it tomorrow. The $2,000 asking price is about $1000 more than I would pay, so I highly doubt anything will come of it.

You have the same problem I do.... Its too hard to resist buying a cheap Mercedes....

I would say there is a less than 10% chance of buying this... Its probably a mess, and overpriced.

I parted out an 83 380 without an engine and sold over 2,000$ worth of bits and pieces. If its not a mess, it may be worth an offer,besides, that keeps one of us from buying it!
