Soft top hydraulic cylineder seals
For those who are interested I have few hydraulic cylinder seal kits left for the cylinders that lock the soft/hard top above the windshield. Those are the ones that fail first, start to leak and prevent both tops from operating. Rebuilding the cylinder is a very easy job that can be done in 5 minutes with this seal kit. Each kit contain a polyurethane seal specially manufactured in Europe and a nitrile rubber o-ring. All you have to do is to disassemble the cylinder, replace the seal and the o-ring and put it back together. This saves you $$$$ compare to ner cylinder prices from your local stealer. Buying a used cylinder is not an option because ALL of them are known to fail due to the seal deterioration. Please send your questions to mbcylinders@gmail.com. If you are ready to buy, just send your payment to this email address using paypal. The price is $32.50 for one cylinder. It is probably a good idea to rebuild both cylinders at the same time, but it is up to you. Sorry, I can not accept credit or debit cards to this paypal address. And please, do not forget to include your shipping address. You should get your seals in few days.

Please, email me to mbcylinders@gmail.com The old email does not work. I edited the old post. I now have seals for all the hydraulic cylinders for the R129 model soft top. That includes 300SL, 500SL, 600SL as well as SL320, SL500 and SL600. Some cars have different seal sizes, but I have all variations now. Rebuilding 8 out of 12 cylinders is very easy and requires just 7 mm wrench and a small flat screwdriver. They can be rebuilt in few minutes. No joke. The other 4 are a little more tricky. Two main cylinders need at least a vise with thick rubber or leather grips (or something similar). Some people use propane torch to heat up the rod tip in order to melt the thread lock. Two small roof actuator cylinders require a special tool that can be made. A pair of snap ring pliers works very often too. The fact is, all the cylinders are rebuildable.

Saw your offer on peach parts regarding the seal kits for hydraulic cylinders. I have a 1997 MB SL 320 that is in need of the seal kit for the rear cylinders that secure the convertible top (to start!). Please advise the charge for the kit, tax and/or shipping..live in Fl plus any special tools that I'll need. Where do I order from, etc. Does this kit come with instructions? Thanks for your cooperation and help in advance! K

SL soft top cylinder seals
What you need are the seals for the rear/center locks. These cylinders are very easy to rebuild. All you need is a small flat screwdriver to take the cylinder apart. These cylinders are the same as for the windshield lock ones. I put together some information at http://www.mbseals.com about rebuilding process and how to get the seal kits. Feel free to email me directly if you still have questions.
The polyurethane seals we installed more than two years ago still hold in LA. My soft top goes down and up few times a day. I still recommend replacing the fluid though. |
