91 500 SL Hard and Soft top issues

Im new to this forum and appreciate any help. I just got this car and am having a hard time re-attaching the Hard Top. It doesnt seem to want to "grab and pull in". Someone told me it might have to be reset somehow, but I cant find the information on how to do it.

On the Soft Top, the glass is cracked in a few small spots. Ive heard of a place near me (in NJ just outside Phila) where they will replace the glass. The rest of the top is on pretty good shape. What should the replacement glass cost? What should it cost to have a whole new top put on her?

How tough would it be to put a new top on myself? Ive seen some online for around $400, but was quoted more like $1700 to have it done.

Thanks for your help and information.

There is lots of information on your questions already posted in this forum. You need to use the search tool to retrive it. Search on key words like
"soft top" or Soft Top Controller". Yes, it can be reset. There are instructions in several posts. You have an early model controller; it's more prone to need reseting, but much easier to reset than the later models ( post 94). If you can't find the info you need, PM me. Welcome to the forum.

I've got a 92 500SL, sometimes I have to pull down on the front of the hardtop to get it to seat properly. I don't know anything about glass in the softop-my rear window is plastic.
