Manual Engine Cranking

I have a 450SL. To manually crank the engine, do I turn the engine clockwise as I stand in front of the car? Also, is there a shroud that covers the cranking bolt. I can't seem to locate it. Thanks for any and all help with this.

depends on the year but yes some have a plastic cap on the end of the pulley that you have to prise out. the bolt is way inside the pulley, you need a 6 inch extension with a 24 or 27mm socket (dont remember which) there are also 6 smaller bolts in there holding on the pulley extension so don't try and turn the engine on one of them. only turn clockwise as you face the engine don't go backwards
good luck
