Question 86'560SL Trunk (Deck Lid) Wiring

Hello, Is was doing some cleaning up of my trunk and just happened to look in the passenger side hinge opening and saw this white wire that had been cut. There was a tube of some black insulation on the lower section of this white wire. The 3rd stop light does work as does the trunk light itself.

So the question is what is it for and where does it go??
Thanks, Jack

trunk light

If I could get my trunk open I'd help you out Jack. The ebay item you recommendsd is already gone. Checking breaker yards.

On my '86 560SL, I have a white wire like that, with a black plastic loom cover, leading up from the trunk hinge (same as your pic) along side the larger loomed wires, and terminating at one of the trunk light festoon bulb contacts, same contact as the brown ground wire. The contact at the bulb is a plastic-encased female spade type.

I just checked my wiring diagram book, and it connects to the anti-theft alarm system control unit, contact 10. Unit is behind the glove box..

My White Wire

Hi Don, Thank you, I will check to see if the alarm responds with no connection. Then reconnect it and see what that does. It's always good to find the answers on the forum. Some one always comes thru. Jack
