Ignition electric oil up?

I have 89'560SL with a temperamental ignition ( electric part) that only allows the blower motor on now and again. I know I will have to change it but wondered meanwhile if a shot of WD 40 down the key barrel might help things or conversely cause damage to anything? what do you think ? a waste of time or worth a try?

It will make a mess in your pocket. I don't know if it has a chance of getting to the electrical contacts from that side.

As long as it doesn't make a mess in my pocket book, ha! ...I might give it a shot....as they say
