Wiring harness - rebuild or replace?
I've been doing some research on the forum about the wiring harness. I've got a '95 SL500 that the red brake light stays on. The fuild level is fine and the parking brake is not on. I recently bought the car (with a bad motor) out of Miami. Apparently, the motor got too hot and it seized up. I took to an indy and had him put another motor in it and now there is the brake light issue. With all that heat, and the moving and twisting of the wires, I haven't had the chance to visually, but I strongly suspect the wiring harness is toast. Checking the prices for a new wiring harness I came across a company that will "rebuild" your old harness. Has anyone had that done or should I just go ahead and buy a new harness?

Is it possible that the brake warning light needs to be reset with a scan tool? I believe that if the engine wiring harness were bad, you'd experience an engine which wouldn't run well or at all.

Anything's possible. Tell me, how do you reset the codes? I have a scan tool that I use on my '00 Chevy Silverado. Will that work on this car?

I believe that you need a MB specific scanner. Do a forum search for CS1000 Fault code scanner. Also, search on the Benzworld.org forum.
