loud engine

recently i did an oil change with 10W40 castrol gtx high mileage
and i noticed the engine was louder, there is 7 and a half quarts oil in there and the dip stick shows its full, so i didnt add the 8.5 quarts like some recommended

could the noise be the lack of oil? or is it because i am using 10W40 instead of 20W50?

thanks in advance

What car, year, engine are you speaking of?

Shouldn't have anything to do with the visc of oil. Did you change the filter?

Are you sure the oil is in there? Does the oil pressure gage indicate normal pressure?

When you say louder, do you mean clack clack clack or knock knock knock louder, or simply generally louder?

Could it be that when you restarted it after the oil change, the fan clutch sensed the heat from the warm/hot and moved more air?
