Wheelcovers vs alloy wheels

I really like the look of the hubcaps vs alloys on these early models.Especially when color matched to the car.
I have chromed alloys, one of which is in very poor shape.
I'm going to try and take mine to an upcoming british/european only show in september.I've got lots to do to get mine at the level yours is at!
Great job on it!

A truly nice piece of work. Is that dash pad original or a cover?

Simply excellent...!

thank you all very much, I am honored at having such praise.
The dash is actually a well fitted and carefully colored dash cover. I took great pains to make sure it blended/fit well. My friend that painted this for me fitted the cover, he got it about 10 years ago from a company overseas. I dont think they are in business anymore. You really have to look close to tell its covered.

Hi Ron, how ya doing
Nice motor alright, certainly the 'red setters rude bits'. That dash cover, you say you got that from an overseas company, i'd be really interested to know where and who, i have a second hand dash for mine but i'm dreading swapping them and there doesn't seem to be a maker of right hand drive dash caps on the planet.
Good luck
Pete

With women beauty is often found within. This car? Nope. Beauty is all outside. The tires are extremely dry rotten. Rubber brake lines are on borrowed days. However as a mechanic I am striking up a deal with a 7.3 liter truck owner to repair his and he will throw in a 79 450sl. What mine lacks that one has and parts to spare. I swear the entire floorpan is very close to showroom condition. Tires are very new. The wheels are very nice on that '79.
I could use alot from that car.
I am going to take one of the front brake calipers rotors to work and soak her down and take her apart.

Most of the electronic stuff on my 450SL I have figured out. what I have not is the temperature gauge. She is not working. Actuated on startup but doesn't move. I need to find where the temp sending unit is and how it sends to the gauge.
I believe there are two sets of wires coming off the headlights. I have to hook them up.

She runs well.

That is because the blower motor cover is steel on the '72.

it is a very good idea to find a parts car when restoring one of these beauties. I was fortunate enough to find an 83 380 without an engine, but had all the bells and whistles I needed. The floorboards were replaced on mine
