560SL trunk lock repair report

Some of you may remember a thread I started some time ago asking for help with my trunk lock. With your help I affected a repair that allowed the latch to operate but I was still afraid to lock it for fear it would not unlock.

This morning, having a slow day, I removed and disassembled the lock mechanism and found the split ring that retains the tumbler cylinder was adrift. That allowed the internal spring mechanism to relax and made the pushbotton unreliable. I compressed the spring and replaced the split ring and the lock is now fully functional.

I suspect that I dislodged that split ring while horsing the lock to open. This is a final report on that repair (I Hope).
