1975 450 - an orphan

so this guy calls me out of the blue , has a 75 450 sitting in a barn, "been there for years" he has been starting it but not moving it. I go to look and find a well apointed, but totally rusted car. Obviously once loved, but now not much good except for parts. :o. Its kinda sad just sitting there .You guys think the parts market is good for this year? The engine runs, I started it, lots of chrome, original becker ect. Not sure what he wants, engines gotta be worth 500
comments?

Panda: I say go for it. I am trying to work out a deal myself on a 1979 450sl. Having an extra around is a gold mine in itself.
The 75 450sl. Is it the D jet or the K jet.
Years ago I once offered a junk yard owner one thousand dollars if I could have a day in his junk. He was tempted but said no.
Strip that puppy down and sell her off.

D-Jet. Finding a buyer for the engine might not be that difficult but unless they can come get it shipping would kill the price. Good tail lights are worth money. Other small parts might bring some cash and are easlily shipped.

yea , had a night to think about it , I may just get it so I can refurb the engine on a stand, so I can learn, and then if Pearl ever needs a new one , I have it. I have never done an out of body engine rebuild. ITs time I learn:)
I will keep you all posted

Keep the parts that you need (everything d-jet) and sell the rest off. It will make you a little bit of money and go a long way in keeping other cars on the road.

called me back, still has it , "drove it around 4 miles the other day ( he says) , except for the rust , runs good"
he lowered the price to $1000 :)

I think I will revisit it

Don't let him drive it any more until he changes the oil or you WILL for SURE need an engine rebuild

true true...

panzerwagen80 11-25-2009 02:00 AM

Did you get it?

I'm in need of a few small parts that might still be good.

Window switches?
Seat Chrome?
Rear package tray or jump seat?

If you got it and have any parts PM me with a price!

meltedpanda 11-25-2009 09:41 AM

dont have it yet , may go look today

That should have the Euro bumpers, not the 5mph American. Those by themselves have plenty of value if not too rusted.

rowdie 11-25-2009 02:17 PM

Sorry. It has the US bumpers. They began in '74. Even the '72 and '73 for the US were modified with the bumperettes to meet USDOT

What colors are involved? I'm beginning to get this "Circling Vulture" type feeling. I could use a fan shroud, a washer reservoir, washer foot switch, turn signal / wiper switch, just off the top of my head. If I thought about it, I could come up with a lot of things..

panzerwagen80 11-25-2009 08:36 PM

Color scheme?

What color is the interior?
Are the a/c panels any good?

meltedpanda 11-25-2009 10:14 PM

one of you guys needs to buy this, I cant swing it right now, any takers, I'll help with the transaction!
