85 380 Drivability Problems

I have recently acquired an 85 380SL with 149K miles. The previous owner had done a complete tune up about 1K miles ago and the timing chain was checked out as OK at that time. A new fuel pump and filter were also installed within that time frame.

It ran well until recently and suddenly, when it would have serious hesitation and stumbling. It was drivable above 2000 rpm, providing you would feather the throttle to that point and hold it there at stop lights. It would not go over 60 mph at that time. The car was not appearing to run rich.

Later, after the car was parked for a few days, it started and ran well as I drove it to work. When it came time to go home, it would not start at all. Starting fluid was of no help. Since I was alone, I had no means of cranking it over to check for spark. The next day it started and ran well as if nothing happened and I took it home.

These issues come and go without warning and with no regard to temperature or ambient conditions. Any thoughts as to where I should start looking - Warm Up Regulator - Coil - Ignition Module - Bad Grounds?

Thanks in advance for you advice!
