drivers side door handle

Where would be the best place to find a door handle for the door on the driver's side of a '73 450 SL? M/B wants an arm and a leg for a new one. Not sure if there are any after market items of this nature on the market.

LEFT Exterior door handle assembly = door opening handle
MB# 107 760 01 59

As Of ident number 024 024230 and 044 051356

LEFT Interior door handle assembly = door opening handle
MB# 107 760 03 61

RIGHT Interior door handle assembly = door opening handle

I am pretty sure I have one, used if you are not too keen on keyway working

I read the OP and keep wanting to say that the door handle should be under the window, a few inches before the end of the door...that's where I found mine. :D

always a comedian in the group :)

I thought jp's comment was funny. I too have the used handle off a '72. What is involved in removing the lock cylinder? Can they just be swapped out?

Oh I am not interested in selling it saving them for the '73 just in case.

dont know rowdie, they got in there somehow, I bet a locksmith could do it

There is one on ebay from a 73 450 SL like yours that should fit

107 door handle

I pulled one off the '72. It is AC/DC. Fits either side. Has two different part numbers. One for L, another for R. Going to look at how to change the lock cylinder.

Id sell mine at half that!

Removing the lock cylinder was really simple. one tiny roll pin, one screw, remove the spring and tap out the the cylinder and shaft. Way easy.

meltedpanda 10-10-2009 09:36 PM

wish it were all that easy!

Strife 10-11-2009 12:57 AM

Actually, it IS that easy, but...

1. The real difference between the LH and RH sides is a very subtle difference in the plates screwed to the top of the lock cylinder.

2. Be REALLY ,REALLY careful about losing or allowing parts to come out of the cylinder (springs, brass plates, etc).

3. There is a subtle difference in the diameter of the cylinders of 380's and 450's, they aren't interchangeable between each other's door handles. The 380's extend very slightly into the top of the handle, the 450's dont (obviously, the 560 is completely different). HOWEVER, you can use a 450 set of handles with 450 keys/cylinders on a 380 (I do). Its another key but I don't care because I installed remote locking and I don't use the door keys anyway. I had the original 380 handles rechromed but never put them back on.

4. If you are REALLY adventureous, this would be a good time to clean out the garbage from the cylinders with spray graphite lubricant, which washes out the old gunk and then evaporates, leaving a new layer of graphite. No other type of lubricant should be used.

Thanks for the info.

Actually I guess I didn't even have to remove the roll pin. I did that so I could disassemble it and clean it.
