New to forum

Greetings everyone, I am new to this forum, I have a 1987 560sl, have had it for 5 years now (inherited it), and no problems at all. Now for the fun part-about a month ago, the idle speed suddenly increased to 1800 rpm with no warning. I drove home, turned off car, went inside. The next morning I started up the car, no more high idle, no problem! This last saturday halloween), it started idling high again while I was at a stop light only this time it did not stop! I checked out the high voltage saftey relay (above the fuse box), the fuse was good, all solder joints appeared to be o.k., and the contacts were not burned or anything. Now my question, I had read that the idle speed control module should be checked, but I don't remember what I am supposed to check on it! I have pulled it out from behind the glove box, and removed the cover-now what? does anybody have expierience with this, or could my high-idle problem be something else! As I said I inhereted the car, so I didn't pay anything for it except taxes and registration/title, and I would like to avoid taking t to the dealer, as I know the repair charges would be cost-prohibitive for me.

Any help at all on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank very much,
-ddayme
