280SL Euro temp. control wheels
My 85 280SL Euro has two wheels on the dash that control the ac/heater temps. They each have a thin blue/white/red foil like material that sticks on the wheel. One of the foils is in bad shape and needs replacing. Any suggestions where I can get a new stick on or glue on foil? Thanks Desert.

This has been asked before, somewhere.
Have you tried a search on this and other forums? |

I've looked in search but can't find anything. Maybe I'm not describing it in the format used previously but don't know how to discribe it better.

IF this is like the US version of the wheel (except for that you have two), there is a replacement MB part for this. I bought them for each of my cars from the dealer. The original one was made of some kind of clear-over-plastic film; the new part is made of self-adhesive polycarbonate (much better and more durable, but it looks a little different).
You have to take apart the potentiometers to install them, but it isn't very difficult and is worth it. Just make sure you don't lose any parts. Lucky you, you have two, so you can look at the other one if you can't figure out how to put it back together

I needed two of these strips for my 500 SL euro. I searched on E-BAY and found them from a guy in germany. The cost was very small, $5 including shipping

Thanks to all above....In regard to taking apart the "potentiometers" I guess I could if I knew what they are ( what are they?).... but if the MB strips come in an oval wouldn't it be easier to carefully cut the oval and then feed the strips on the wheels since they are self adhesive?
