Engine swap m110 into 380sl question

Hi I have put an m110 engine and auto trans. out of a (1977 slc ) into a 1981 380sl.... Does anyone know what I will need to change out electrical wise if anything, to make it run?...I already have the engine and trans. changed and bolted in...I have spark and fuel ...but it won't even try to hit...also I do not have the car that the engine and tranny came out of...will buying a new flex plate for the swap fit the 380 driveshaft?...thanks!
Reggie

I would be suspicious of the ignition control unit, since it is for an eight cylinder engine and you have installed a six.

Where did you check for fuel? If you crack a fitting on the top of the fuel distributor, does it dribble out when you crank?

Same for spark. Have you checked it with a light against the timing marks?

Question

I haven't checked the timing with a light yet....fuel is great!...I also installed a new filter and fuel pump...Maybe during the christmas time off I can check with the light....you don't happen to have a six cylinder control unit do you?

If you have spark at the correct time and the right amount of fuel in the cylinders, the car will start.

Fuel is great? What does that mean?

I don't have a good M110 ignition unit, but it should be easy to find.

Cool

the injectors look to be spraying correctly...not dribbles...I will keep informed on what I eventually come up with...I'm betting with you that it is the ignition control unit.
Thanks,
Reggie

Hmm ...

Just for grins, I looked up the PNs for the ignition module.

000 545 76 32 is for BOTH the 280SLC and 380SL with a long footnote on 380SL serial numbers

000 545 26 32 is for 380SL up to 1982.

So maybe this isn't the problem. I am surprised that those two engines would take the same unit. But when you think about it, all it does is take a signal from the distributor and fire the coil.

I would suggest checking/trying the following:

- spark with a timing light
- cold start valve for a spray of fuel while cranking
- press the air sensor plate down a little bit while cranking. Use a stick so you don't get singed if it backfires. If it fires, you may have an over-lean mixture or high control pressure.

This is all assuming you have the distributor indexed correctly??? Rotor is pointing to cylinder #1 lug (properly connected to plug #1) when at TDC compression / ignition stroke changeover?

Remember: Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow.

Don't overlook the simple stuff: My 107 was Out Of Service for 3 months with maladjusted points.

My only defense is that I was distracted by The Steering Coupler Adventure.
