1977 450SL starter cable?
 

1977 450SL 78,000 miles.

No start--no crank. Solenoid clicks, lights work, battery crank capacity checks good, connections good, starter looks like it was recently replaced.

This car has been sitting a while--started successfully one month ago to move out of garage, now above symptoms present.

My (limited) experience tells me that a clicking solenoid is usually the result of not enough current flow reaching the starter. This car has a lot of rust/corosion on the undercarriage, is it possible that the cable that connects the starter to the battery in the trunk is coroded somewhere? Is this possibly a "common problem" on this make and model? If so, where should I start looking for the defective section of cable?

update:

Starter looks like it was recently replaced--connection posts very clean, case freshly painted......

Removed starter anyway, opened back of case, found ground up brushes and chunks of commutator.

Guess I'll need a new starter.

what are the proper connections for this car?
battery to -starter??
