1985 380 SL Transmission Problem

Suddenly on a Red light , the car refuse to go forward on any gear. But It works fine on reverse, Any ideas or where shell I start looking . It was not giving me any problem before except the shifting was ruff from first to second to third.

Sam- Just a quick reply here, check the transmission fluid level. And, have the tranny serviced (new fluid, filter, etc.- NOT at Jiffy Lube!). Ned

B2 piston? Not sure what transmission your year of SL has, but on the diesels of that vintage 722.3xx six-bolt oil pan, that would be a good bet. Find out what you have and then do a search.

85 380SL

Another possibility though not likely are the plastic shift linkage bushings. Mine had almost disappeared. If they are both missing (deteriorated to the point of crumbling) you may hav enough lost motion to cause your problem.
