correct oil for 77 450SL
I am currently the caretaker of a 77 450SL that was donated to a local charity. It will be sold, proceeds will fund the organizations operating budget.
I've spent some wrench time and parts on it--It now runs but not very well. In any case, I should change the fluids before I run it anymore. What is the correct oil for this engine. (I live in St. Louis, hot summers, cold but not frigid winters) I use 15-40 in my 124s, should I use that in this car as well or do these old 107's like something different? Thanks, J. M. van Swaay |
10 or 15 40 is ok. What do you mean not frigid. Have you checked your forecast?

Glad to see you picked it up!
Any idea what they are asking for it yet?

When I first looked at this car, I optimistically guesstimated that it might bring $1K as a parts car. My first impression was that this car was probably to far gone to be a candidate for restoration. Now that I have it in my shop and have had a chance to look at it a bit more carefully, I'm beginning to think that my "parts donor" sentence might be a bit premature. I don't think this car is a candidate for a frame off restoration, but I do think it could be made into a driver that looks good from 15 feet away. I'm going to suggest that they list it for $1500.00 and see what happens. If anybody wants more information about this car please email me at jmvanswaay@charter.net.
