After a couple of years and 20,000 more miles, struts mounts ,idle arm bushings.the play in the front end gradually became worse and worse so I decided to go for broke and started to really throw parts at it, the shop next door, Gary Brown restorations had a new hydraulic lift installed and on a sunday I got access to it. Thanks to Phil at Peach parts I bought the left and the right complete tie rod assys. and a brand new center link, I meant business. removing the old parts was no walk in the park. one slightly loose tie rod end per side it's what I found, the center link tight as a drum, as I was cleaning around the area before installing the new parts; why not? I grab the pitman arm at the steering box and eureka, the mother load, the arm had play. I could not tell by raising the car, wheels in the air or on ramps where the looseness of the front end came from. it took me to disconect everything
from the steering box to see it, oh well ,new steering components on my car at 80,000 miles do not hurt my feelings, and an allen wrench and an open wrench on the nut on the steering box, counterclockwise to tighten took care of a longest lasting headache I've ever experience. I hope this story will
help some of you guys in the future, check the steering play at the steering box first.
