Seat Belt mysteries - what the heck?

My passenger seat belt works fine when you pull it out of its housing. Lock it into the receptor however and it locks up like you are stopping quickly. I am sure this a sensor of some sort, but I haven't the foggiest idea where to begin to find out how to stop this from happening.

Any input? Any and all help would be appreciated.

it is a weight that moves forward and locks the retraction mechanism, probably just need to take it apart and ensure everything is functioning as designed. You may have something preventing the proper function

I assume I need to take apart the actual belt? I wonder how the magnet is getting messed up only when the seat belt is engaged?

This car appears to have been in a slight accident - I bet that has something to do with it.

perhaps, there is also a retraction mechanism for the belt, a ratchet type affair, may be that as well

This is a 95 129 chassis car and as such has pyrotechnic tensioners so disassembly of the retractor should be at the very least done with same caution one would employ screwing with an airbag installation!

You will likely need to find some information specific to the system in that more modern car, there may be a sensor that detects the seat belt interlocking that causes a reaction in the SRS system. Might have something to do with seat positioning etcetera, someone who owns or specifically works on the 129 chassis would know more about that. You can always buy a DVD manual from MBUSA that would explain how that system works.

On the receptacle where the seatbelt retracts into there should be a slide buttion there to release the retractor mechanism. This is designed for installing a child seat in the passenger seat. When engaged it will lock into place to hold the child seat securely in the passenger seat. When not engaged the seat belt will work normally.
