96 sl320 roll bar and top lights on?

Started my 96 sl320 this morning and the up/down roll bar light is on and the top control knob is lighted. Neither work just the lights are lit. Vehicle runs fine.
Any help would be great! need to pop into work. Checked all fuses in trunk and are ok.
Back again; I found this:http://www.pairlist.net/pipermail/r129list/2009-April/002425.html and it may just be a threshold level on the battery for power to the controller. I need to see the error code and try the reset once I charge up the battery.
More to follow..... John

BTW: I see others have had the same problem and I hate to be redundant, but this little tell-tell could help others with similar symptoms. $$

If you use the search tool on this forum or the MBworld forum, you'll get lots of info on this problem and how to deal with it. The controllers for the top and roll bar evolved through 3 different types over the years the car was produced, so look for info pertaining to your year. The earlier types are the most likely to get confused, but are easy to reset. Later types, are more relieable, but harder to reset.

Follow up: I used Beckmann Technologies, Inc. in Durham, NC they repaired & updated the controller and all is now good. I have also replaced the 7 year old battery and installed a trickle charger. I do believe a low battery was the cause of all my troubles.
Thanks to all for your help!
