A/C Servo Replacement

Hi--

Any thoughts on which is the best A/C heat servo replacement alternative:

1) UT electronic replacement control kit @ about $700, or

2) rebuilt aluminum-bodied servo @ about $575?

Is one better, more-reliable than the other to replace my once replaced plastic-bodied servo?

I had the UT replacement installed 3 years ago after my "replacement" unit died after less than a year. I have never had a problem with it. The installation is more complicated than replacing the existing unit as you have to splice into the existing wiring and mount the unit in the engine bay. But they provide good step by step intstructions.

Remember, you're moving about 30 years ahead in materials and control technologies with the retrofit kit. There have been many tales of replacement "old style" units failing again after a year or three. The price is not that much different (cheaper, if you look at the long term), and the kit was designed by aggravated engineer types that said " I can do better than this."

I had a U T unit installed in my 81 380SL on 11/05 and it has been working fine since. No problems whatsoever. I had it done by a independent shop that had prior experience installing them.

After having rebuilt this system recently, I would say go with the UT servo. Much less hassle, less running around with your head cut off.

If the servo I have in my car fails, I will be going with a UT replacement.
