High Idle
My 560 sat over the winter because of an unusually cold winter here in Florida, plus the starter went out. I had it towed to a local shop for replacemnet. When I picked the car up it started and ran rough for a bit and then leveled out. As I headed home I noticed the car would not idle down. It was running a constant 3000-3500 rpm. I had to ride the brakes to maintain a safe speed. When I got home I removed the air cleaner and tried to move the throttle linkage by hand - it was very stiff. I took a can of WD40 and sprayed all the linkage connections and worked them by hand several times. Problem solved. Thought this may help someone out.

Nice that you found you problem without having to shell out any serious money. WD40 will free up sticky things but then it will dry leaving behind a rust-proofing film and little if any lasting lubrication. If the problem returns you might give those linkage joints a drop or two of ATF which should last a very long time.

linkage lube
Thanks. The initial treatment was more of a diagnostic than a repair. After it stopped the binding of the linkage I had already decided that after the WD40 "dried" some, I would come back with some white lithium grease. I'll get it done this weekend along with a good clean up.
