Ugh, High Idle... I know!
Okay, I just spent an hour researching the High Idle Hell many of you (us) have experienced. Mine goes to 2000. Tried an easy fix (replacing accelerator pedal - hey, someone suggested that the little ball on the back may have been broken and not returning the pedal because I can bring the idle down a bit when I stick my foot behind the accelerator and pull towards me) and it didn't work.
My problem seems (?) a bit different from others, though. Besides the high idle issue, when I step on the accelerator, the tranny doesn't drop down a gear, even going uphill... to the point where it kind of bogs down. In all my searching, haven't seen that one. BTW, there is no ABS light, I haven't tried to clean the IACV yet (will do that next) and my Economy gauge works fine (no vacuum leak I assume). Any other suggestions?? Especially with the tranny issue entered into the equation? Thanks! Stix

i wouldn't assume no vacuum leaks just because the economy needle works. i found a torn rubber vacuum connector that when replaced my economy needle became much more sensitive than it was, even though it pegged to the left on idle. so i think vacuum leaks can exist and the needle appear to work just fine.
anyone more knowledgeable than me care to weigh in?

Idle problems must be contagious ...
This one sounds more like a linkage problem.
Follow the throttle linkage up to the front of the engine to the bellcrank from which there is a rod that goes down to the throttle plate. Pop the rod off the bellcrank to be sure that the throttle plate can fully close. Start the engine and see if the idle drops. If it does, work your way back through the linkage to see where it's hanging up.

I would agree, there is a step by step procedure to adjust the bellcranks. On mine it did a great job of fixing my flairing shift, and allowed for a better kick down
