ELAU

Do you know, what "SL" means ?? try to Find.. !!
What is signification about "C" after "SL" ?? Bingo...!!
So, the "SLC" has the same body style than SL ?? Yes..
The "SLC" are in the SL line up?? YES...!!
So, the "SLC" model is part of SL heritage ?? YES...!!
So, What that means "SLK" ?? Try to Find..!!
What is the signification about "SL" again..before "K" ??
What is the signification about "k" after "SL" ?? Bingo....
So, M.B. did only 2 models with one letter and signification, after "SL" concept!! "C" and "K" !
So, do you think that the 2001 500 SL has the same body Style and design than "SLK" ??? Thatīs a COINCIDENCE !!!
After all this, do not you think that the SLK is part of the SL line up and heritage??
Are you sure, that you are a Mercedes Shop SENIOR MEMBER ???
L.O.L. !!!!!!!
Thanks for your attention and happy new year again !!

mcarboni,
Thanks for enlightening my limited knowledge on the SL heritage. By the way, its only a matter of opinion whether a SLK is a SL. I have heard both schools of argument (an interesting one none the less).
My being a Senior Member of the forum merely reflects the number of posts I made since joining the forum, and has nothing to do with my knowledge. There are plenty of junior members here with respectful knowledge I can only imagine and learn from. LOL

DALE DORIA 12-31-2001 09:00 AM

Does the SLK belong with the same hetitage as the SL.....Absolutly not! Does the BMW Z3 belong in the same class as the Z8?? I think not!! :) :)

elau 12-31-2001 11:19 AM

mcarboni,
The new SL, by the way, is not the same as the SLK as you eluded. They may share some cosmetic commonality but come from different chassis/engine displacement and most of all --- price. Stop by the dealer and ask them if they will sell you a SL for the price of the SLK. LOL

mcarboni 01-03-2002 08:47 AM

Ok Guys.
You win....

But tell me one thing....
Why the model SLK have the same "SL" on the name like others SL models ??
I thought when any car has the same name like others, its is on the same line-up.

Thanks foe your information...
I am on vacation, and when i come back, I will publish again without SLK. model...

Bye

mcarboni,
Nobody wins here, its all good humor discussion among family!!! The way I was explained, the SL stands for Sport Light and the SLK is a baby roadster designed to compete with others less expensive topless such as the Boxster and Z3. The car is a well built roadster nonetheless, as you can see the number of followers to this line up. The SLK has more common components with the C class than with the SL class. I myself will not hesitate to own one if not my heart really would like to add a Porsche 993 to my stable. Enjoy your vacation and come back with more discussions. Better take you digital camera with you in case you run into a fabulous MB while you are on the road. I can only imagine all the wonderful places you can go in Brazil.

Thanks for information

Dear Elau

Thanks for all your information...
Now I recognize that I was wrong.......
I am sorry for my all questions about your knoledge about SL's
I thought that SLK was a part of SL line up....

Thanks again....and soon its possible, I will try to publish any MB picture roading in any Brazilian place ....
Have a Happy new year and many success !!

SL....K?

Please pardon my ignorance, but I have to ask: What does the "K' stand for. I am serious. Is it suppose to be Koupe for Coupe. or Kompressor as I have seen on some vehicles.

Also does anyone really know if the SLK is not considered a type of SL. Perhaps many "true" SL owners / fans are insulted that the SLK would be a part of the same class. However, I would agree that the SLK is probably "sport light" / light sports car. May be some one could research and contact Mercedes-Benz.

Until, reading these posts, I never thought of the SLK being an SL type model. However, I do find it odd that MB would give it such a similiar distinction to the SL models by naming it SLK.

G-Benz 01-23-2002 01:14 PM

Although I have no official reference to this, I believe the ONLY reason why it shares the "SL" nomenclature is because it is a two-seater...it does share C-class components, but they already have identified the "CLK" brand (which is a 4-seater, I believe?).

So rather than designating yet another unique letter to identify the only existing model in its class, MB chose to lump it with the SL models as a two-seater designation, and not because it has any similarities with the SL.

Of course, the SLC was a four-seater, but it was a stretched SL model, but it further confuses the model designation issue.

I'm sure this argument took place in one of the Stuttgart conference rooms at one time...

Hello friends

The G-Benz explanation was great !
Thatīs the reason i am confused when I did the first article published on this post !!

What SL means

SL stands for Sport Leicht, which is Sport Light in English. This may have been an accurate description for the 113 or earlier - but for the 107, I'm not so sure. The K in SLK stands for Kurz (German) which is Short (English) - which seems fair enough. Have you seen the trunk of an SLK with the top down?
