'75 450SL 4spd???
Hey Guys,
I've looked at alotta cars over the years and manual tranny MBs were always of special interest to me due to their rarity in the US. So when this came across eBay recently I was intrigued: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280536996364&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Problem is, in all my years I do not remember coming across a mid-late 70's 450SL Stick. 450SLC stick, yes. '72-73 350SL stick, yes. 280SL stick, yes. Is my memory going? Or are they just exceedingly rare? I'm not looking to buy it (happy with my '72...unless you've got an '88-89 300SL 5spd that needs a home..), so if anyone wants my agent (aka father) who lives up there to take a look, he'd be more than happy to. Seller did send me a couple pics confirming trunk badge & stick shift (and rust):

It's just a re-badged 350SL - 107 043. There were no 450SLC sticks either - no sticks with a 117 motor. He's careful not to say it's a 4.5.

That was my thinking, but I wasn't positive. The 450SLC sticks I remember seeing must have been up-badged 350SLCs. ...Now that I think a little harder, I remember that they were 350's...
Thanks for confirming!

Neu231 I'd love to hear more about that retrofit. Do you have any details you could share? What kind of mods did you have to do? Would love to do the same on my 73 450SL.

4 speed 450's are rare but come up for sale
Amg conversions usually had 4 speeds. There was a 1975 4 speed available on craigslist recently in the San Francisco area. The hard part of doing the conversion is finding a euro donor car.You need the clutch pedals, bell housing, trans, and shifter.Sometimes the parts come up on ebay as well. The last one I saw was in a euro 116 350SE.A list member from the SF area went and grabbed it as he had a similar vehicle.

you also need the plate that holds up the transmission and you'll want the longer drive shaft. -CTH
