How to take the gear shifter knob off?

I have been thinking about to replace my OEM gear shifter knob and replace it with one with both wood and leather for my R129. Can someone tell me how to take the old one off? I do not want to spent the money for the new knob and find out I do not have the right tool to take the old knob off.

Starting in 1995 the knob comes off by turning the trim at the bottom of the knob counter-clockwise & then pulling up on the knob.
