1988 560SL Wipers

After 22 years I am beginning to have trouble with my wipers. They have gotten sluggish and they are stopping in mid windshield instead of to the left. As well, they are 1988 technology and they are far from effective.

Can they be replaced with a newer engineered type of wiper or can the old be made to work smoothly? Nothing is more annoying than this.

Thanks for your Help!

This could be a sign that the linkage is getting loose although my symptom was different. I'd look into it because if it gets too loose it will break, which is an expensive part and is an automatic dash-out (10+ hour)repair.

In my experience (on both cars), there is a bolt to the left and behind the instrument cluster that works loose, and the linkage/transmission starts to flop around.
