1975 450 SL ignition lock
 

Does anyone have any info on replace the ignition cylinder lock on the 1975 450 SL. Any info would be helpful. Steering wheel is in the lock position with the original ignition cylinder ripped out of it. The car was being manhandled and someone wanted in more then me I guess.

You should be able to get a new cylinder from the dealer. With proof of ownership, it can even be made to work with the same keys. It may take a few days to get it in. I can't access my service manual, so I'm doing this from memory, but I think that there are only a couple of easily fabricated tools needed to get the cylinder out, the dealer would know better.

The cylinder (part the key fits into) is already missing from the car. Its the housing that I am talking about.

I already realize that you have to go to the dealer to get the key etc...

I had to do that to a car I bought, look to see if where lock goes in to the tupe,see if it bent to mine was. Replaced tube. And if I remenber right. That might be the easy way to go for you to but first. lower back of the stearing tube, you should be adle to get to bolts then. If not remove tube put it in vice. Unless you want to try to fix in car.That may require some refresments to keep from taking a hammer to it and some blood will be lost , but remove insterment panel and look at place where lock goes in if it bent or broke you will need a new tube than. send pic mercmandrews@hotmail.com I have some pic of it.
