1975 450SL- advisable price??
Hey all,
I have a yellow 1975 450sl, and I am looking to sell it, but I was hoping to get some advice on where I could reasonably price/ sell it. It has under 138,000 miles, and is in immaculate condition, except for the interior driver's side door panel, and some speaker connections to the stereo. What would you recommend? This car has been in a garage for years, and is still a lot of fun to drive, and runs very smoothly. |

One place to check, is eBay - look at completed auctions for 72-75 models. To sell, you could try all the free on-line forums ( here, peachparts, ourSL.com) as well as autotrader, eBay and Craigs Lists. Maybe even local newspapers - that how I bought mine, but that was a long time back! By the way, you can buy the door panels from World Upholstery and fixing the speaker wires should not be a big job. Good Luck.

The value is not always what you want but what an individual is willing to pay. Based on what I have seen lately and based on your descripton. 5-7K

In SL land, 138K miles is a lot of miles. No matter how nice it looks, no matter how nice it runs, people will tend to buy the low mileage car first. There are enough of them still out there to really put a cap on cars with mileage like yours. Color. Yellow is an acquired taste for most people. All in all, the color reduces it's value. Year. 1975 is a bad year. As are 1974 and 1976. At least the 72/73 had the small bumpers... The 77 had the cats under the car, not nestled under the hood. And the more desirable CIS injection had arrived. Rust. You don't mention any of the car's history. Western car or rust belt car? These cars rust. They rust in a damp (east coast) environment. How rusty is (was) the car? History. Full service history from new? No? Well, that's another killer for getting a high price. Deferred maintenance can quickly eat you alive in these cars. No records = not done.... Market. It's a terrible market for old luxury cars right now. It ain't what it used to be, might come back, but it's going to be awhile. Great if you're a buyer though. Given what little you've disclosed about the car (worthless without detailed pics), I'd expect it to fall into the low end of "get in and drive" quality cars. Unfortunately, that's 4-6 grand right now. Maybe less if rust and history have any blotches on them. Good luck, I've got one myself... Jim
