SL320 auto window opening

Hi all,

I have a 1995 Sl 320. According to my owners manual the windows are supposed to open a little automatically when you open the door and then close when you shut the door thus making opening and closing the doors easier. My car doesn't do this. I've had the car to the dealer and they say that the feature didn't start until 1996. Is this true ?? and if so does anyone know why it would be in my owners manual ??

See my answer on the Technical Discussion. Anyway, I have the same year car as yours. The window is supposed to lower itself when the door is opened and raise itself when door is closed. Tell your dealer to re-adjust the window switch. I had the same problem once and they fixed it.

I don't know about the '95, but on my '97 the owner's manual tells you to "re-synchronize" the windows if the power has been interrupted to the car---dead battery for example.

All you have to do is: with the windows all the way up, hold the switch for one of the windows in the "up" position for at least two seconds, then do the same for the other window.

It's easy enough; give it a try.

Thanks for you replies. I talked to the service dept. at my local dealer and they said that the feature was introduced in mid year 1995 and that mine probably doesn't have it. What do you think ??

I still think your car has that feature. Have you looked through your owner's manual?

OK, Here's the situation with the owners manual. When I bought the car the owners manual was missing. The dealer ordered me a new one (actually it comes as a reprint). The owners manual does say 1995 and does talk about the window feature. Actually, the manual cautions you to not shut the doors after disconnecting the battery with the windows up as it could damage the frames. So, could the dealer still be right in saying that the feature was introduced in mid year 1995 ?? Would the dealer be able to somehow test to see if I have it without pulling the whole car apart ??

All the dealer has to do is to look up your vin number and can tell if your car comes with that feature. Look at your driver's side and you should see a striker plate. Find out what month your car is manufactured. Mine is April of 1995, and I have that feature on the window and it is not a mid year car. I think your dealer is pulling your leg. Insist on them to have it fixed or return the car and buy it somewhere else. Is there any other R129 owner out there who can check for B9er? Preferably a '93 or '94 model and see if the window feature is on your car?
