SL Wheels

Got my 2000 SL and it's a beauty except for....the wheels. The stock rims from that year
really look kind of anemic IMHO.
The AMG five spoke wheels (that come standard on the current model) look much better.
When the dealer told me they cost around $800 per, I mentioned that the Tire Rack sells
them for $339 (for the 17" version). The dealer was quick to add they the're no good and often don't fit
right.
So...is the dealer trying to make a fast buck, or are the AMG's from Tire Rack truly some cheap
immitation. If so, does anyone know where I could order them for a low price?
Thanks in advance.

Dealers charge a premium for EVERYTHING they sell. They are reasonable on MB coolant though...

Why don't you e-mail Luke at Tire Rack and ask him? $339 is a hefty price for a wheel anyway, so I can't understand why it would be considered "cheap"? Unless the wheels are 24K gold plated, $800 per wheel is an exorbitant price!!!

SL Wheels...Tire Rack AMGs

Hi!

I have three sets of Tire Rack supplied MB AMG wheels for the ML55, CLK430, and soon to arrive S55 for winter driving use...they're all excellent and alot cheaper than your dealer quote. So order away from TR without hesitation...ask for Shane if necessary..they're all very helpful!

Have fun with your new wheels,

D.

Talk to Luke...

Aloha KPG,

I can say without reservation, if you talk to Luke at the Tire Rack, you'll get a first rate wheel at a fair price. I've come to conclude that in many cases, the dealership may have the welfare of only one entity formost in their mind...theirs. My two cents...

Good luck,
