How do I disconnect the flow to the heater core?
My heater core is leaking. I smell that sweet smell and the windshield gets moist when I turn the heat on.
I would like to disconnect the coolant flow to the heater core. Is this possible? Can I just close the actuator valve somehow? This is a summer car and I don't really feel like removing the dash to get to the HC. Thanks! |
You might want to check the valves and hose connections before resigning yourself to a heater core. If there are leaks from the control valve or hoses, it will dribble coolant into the heater box, which could mimic a leaking heater core. Eliminate the inexpensive and easy stuff before you go for the expensive stuff.
I was able to run a 'bypass' between the outlets at the back of the heads to stop coolant leakage from wherever. I've had to put things on hold for a while after my wife lost her job, so I had to jerry-rig a few things. Scott |
