No need to drill the tumbler. Try this Trunk Lock Issues - Mercedes-Benz Forum

Trunk Lock Issue

Hi If you don't get this open then I can give you the location where to drill this small hole below the top edge of the license plate and make contact with the latch and it will open. Read page one of this thread.

OK, I've struggled with this for several months. In my case the button was pushed in and could turn with the key but would not come out. I tried all of the above with no success. Oh, the car is a 1988 560 SL. The ultimate solution for me, was shown in this your tube video

I had tried this before several times without success. Then I tried it with a bent file so I could pull harder on the key, and Voila.

I also tried drilling the hole route. I had no joy, but once I got the trunk open I figured out how to make this method work. My problem was that I drilled the hole a little too far to the right - I measured 17 mm but that is too far in my car. I used a bent piece of steel and you can see the problem, it comes up just to the side of the latch and cannot get under it.

Just a little less to the right and it would have worked. So now I put a very short bend in my tool, and it is easily able to come up behind the latch, push to the front of the car and the latch will open

I hope this clarifies this problem for others.

Hooray! I had a similar situation, I suffered for several months, as soon as I found this thread, I read everything and tried again, but in a slightly different way, some ways, as advised here, and I succeeded. I opened it. Thank you!
