450 slc restoration

Hallo to all the Mercedes 107 guys here. I am new to this forum but not to Mercedes. I bought myself a 1980 450 slc here in South Africa about three weeks ago. Four days after taken delivery of the vehicle I got rear ended by some idiot.

I decided to fix the car myself, and since being given the unfortunate oppertunity I decided to respray the car in my color of chioce Metallic Black.

The car was origanally green,

I attach a few photos of the progress so far, as I am typing the car is getting the final black base coat!!

How did you straighten the dent in the rear? Just drill holes and pull the panel out or what?

I removed the dents by firstly putting in an hydraulic jact in the wheel arches and pushing the rear section straight again, then I panelbeated the remainder of the dents, and finally used a little bit of filler.

Will post final pics on friday

Yea its 199, car is painted and drying now, looks absolutley superb!! Will post some pics tomorrow.

In the meantime I have bought
1. New Subframe mounts
2. Rear control arm bushes
3. Front lower control arm bushes
4. Front upper control arm bushes
5. Idler arm repair kit busches

Is their any suspension parts that I have overlooked that uasally wear out?

OK, so know car is painted in base 2k with clearcoat on, we have floated the clearcoat with 2000grid to get rid of all imperfections, and i have started to polish up the clearcoat after having it floated down.

all picture will dipict a dull finish because the clear coat was floated, but on the one pic you can see that the left hand side fender was polished to perfection.

I must admit this color looks absolutely great on the car

I have managed to obtain 15 inch chrome mb mages that will be fitted

Looks like a great improvement - Things seem bad when they happen, but sometime work out for the best.

Enjoyed the pictures, especially trying to read the newspapers

Alles van die beste!
