the dreaded rear wheel slotted nut
I am going to tackle the rear wheel bearing removal on my 380SL. After searching this forum and reading D morrison's great tutorial, I think I can handle this. BUT the slotted nut has me a little apprehensive. The special tool costs about $78 , which seems a liitle high for a one time use. Does anyone have one I can purchase used, rent , or borrow?
Thanks |

Check out the tool rental threads.
I bought the special tool from the dealer (sorry I live too far away to send mine to you) and had none of the filing off bits off of the special tool trouble that has been reported here. If I remember correctly the tool cost about 120 euros...

And this is the "good" one. The cheap one doesn't have the center guide and is notorious for being harder to use (keeping parallel) and therefore breaking off the prongs.

When my time comes, the lead mechanic at my local MB dealer said he would lend me his.
He said "Somebody needs to use it because I never have!"
