R107 Instrument Cluster Modification

Hello All,

A while back, I started a small project for making gauge face kits for the R107 line of SL class Mercedes-Benz cars. I never pursued this line further as I got busy with other things.

I was wondering if there would be any interest in a line of gauge face kits for these cars. I have a lot of free time now-a-days and would like to expand my hobby.

Below are some pictures that were taken a while back and a guide for the templates I have. While I wait to see if any interest is present for these items, I am looking to expand my template collection. If you have an R107 SL cluster that is in good physical and functional shape, and it has faces that are not present in the images below, I am interested in purchasing that cluster from you.

If you may be interested in a set for your R107 SL please PM me and I will put you on a list of people to contact in the near future.

Thank you and have a great evening.

What are they made out of? I might be interested if you had one with AMG in the right place and print style.

I actually really like that look.

Are they functional? In otherwords...easier to see at night? During the day?

Those look really nice!

My only problem would be the instructions on how to get the needles off to put the new ones on.

Are there any sources for tips on that?

Scott

Didn't Mrelbe do something similar with his 129?

I believe you're correct.

These are overlays and are designed to be placed over the existing metal faces. They are made of thick vinyl sheets coated in clear plastic shells. I specifically have made them to be very resistant to heat, moisture and UV rays, yet affordable so pretty much anyone can afford to have a set if they choose to. I have been manufacturing them for W124, W126, and W201 cars for about 6 years now.

I will post a few renders of speedometer faces for your review.

Personally, I installed a tan/beige set in my W124 and have found it to be a great functionally visual improvement in daylight, but where these gauge faces can really stand out is at night.

I will post pictures of my cluster in both daylight and a night with the cluster lights on for your comparison.

When I built the initial 3 clusters, I made an instruction set specifically for this style of cluster. If you wish to review this document, I certainly do not mind sending it to you. Please PM me your email and I will forward a copy of the instructions to you in PDF format.

Update to speedometers

I was able to get templates for the 240KM/H and 260KM/H faces and have updated my Gauge Face Guide image accordingly.

Rowdie has sent me some faces from his SLs, I am working on those right now and will update the image once again.
