Intermittent Odometer
I found many of these on here but mine may be different.
Some state there is a shaft/pin that separates from the first dial and none will work as this one does not spin. Mine is truly intermittent as a pin out just does not work. Mine did not work when I got the car, but the seller said it was working when she delivered it. It started working and quit. I can go and it starts working, make a stop and it won't. It worked for the past 100+ miles and when I reset the trip meter it stopped again. What I did driving down the road was to press the reset button in a 1/64" (guess... press in just enough to take pressure off set position) and it worked again, let it all the way out it and it stops. So the question would be is there a way to set the reset button to not come all the way out, compress spring a bit? 1975 450SL |

The speedometer on a '75 like ours is mechanical. The "failure point" on the odometer is a metal gear that slips on the main axle that holds the numbers. What I had to do on mine was to use a pair of diagonal cutters with stripping notches to create a couple of notches and squeeze some metal outward that got the gear to grip much tighter.
If you need further info, P.M. me. Depending on where you live in the Valley, we may be able to meet up, I'm in Glendale. Scott
