Question *** 3 of 1, 1 of 1 ***

A friend of mine handed me 4 bundts that he's been hauling around/storing for the past 2 decades. They came off his mother's MB (He doesn't remember what the model was...thought it was something newer than my '77 W123.)

Anyways...

As expected, the back sides were pretty well caked with brake-dust-fudge and it took a bit of rubbing to reveal the following...

I found that 3 of the rims had this as a P/N: 1084001002

The other rim had a P/N of: 1264002102

Stamped on the 108s was the #: 272 and either 43 or 42

On the 126 rim, I couldn't see any discernable stamping of any type.

What do these rims fit and are the 108s & the 126 compatible?

ALSO ... I thought about getting some brake-dust buster cleaner but I don't want to chance etching the rims.

Does anyone recommend any particular cleaner/chemical that will cut down on the amount of time required to clean these things up, or close, to "white glove" level without breaking the bank?

Thanks.

BTW: If these units aren't usable for my 107 or 123, I'd entertain offers once I clean 'em up and determine if they're still road-worthy...

Thanks for any response.

You should also have a rim size .....

14J X 6 or 6.5.

As long as the rims are the same width, they are essentially interchangable.

Since they all have MB part #s, the hubs will take the same lug bolt.

The 108 part #s are 6 1/2 x 14. I think the 126s are also. They will fit 107s and 123s.
I use orange cleaner concentrate diluted about 3-1 in a spray bottle and scotch brite cleaning pads. The surface on the back of the wheels is anodized or similar and very durable. They clean up real nice with a little elbow grease.

I've never cleaned these wheels, but I would be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry reluctant to use Scotchbrite pads for almost anything on a Mercedes. They scour and leave scratches, even on glass. Sorry to say, I found that out the hard way! But I second the suggestion of orange cleaner. I've used the P21S brand of cleaner for years and it's never let me down. Spray on, let soak for a minute. Maybe try a nylon pad (Dobie or Scrunge) or even a toothbrush to agitate the cleaner. Then rinse.

WHITE scotchbrite will not scratch. Red or green, then ,yes.

FSM section 40.5-102 says both of those p/n's are 6.5 x 14 30 mm offset.

But there's a footnote: the 108 p/n doesn't have a recessed for the valve and says "for special metal valve" and the the 126 says "with trough for rubber valve". The break for the p/n or valve design was 1981.

If you have the manual or access you can see a pic of the difference on 40.5-102/9.

They should be usable, but you may need a special valve stem.

Thanks guys. I have another set of four rims that I got with the 107 when I purchased that back in '09. I'll check those numbers to be sure I have a matching set there.

But the info. you've provided here should help me decide if I need to keep these or not.

Thanks again!!
