72 450SL - This is Encouraging
if ligit - looks like a good sign that restored/original early SL's are increasing in value??? At 20 K , I'd take the money and run
Item number: 180808662224 on ebay |
Maybe he'll sell you that power steering knurled fastener for the reservior.
What a beauty. Jim |
yes she is a nice one, but , if I dont mind saying , mine is just as nice, need that brass fitting thou...:)
His is more original than mine, I have a few period correct changes on mine . Too bad he took the radio out ( guess it comes with the car) |
Speaking of original radio, we have the Becker Mexico in our '75. Lights up nice and pretty, the search button works, but radio and cassette doesn't. Antenna goes up and down. Any hints on identifying problem? Thread hijack over!
|
There a a few questions I could ask that were not addressed in the ad but it really appears it is a nice original vehicle.
The only glaring problem I saw (excluding radio) was the muffler. It is the wrong one and does not mount properly. |
and no trunk pictures:( right about the muffler , I saw that . when I redid my interior, I did not replace the map pockets, now I wish I had , although I do think they take up some precious room.
Grenadiers, your radio may have blown outputs or a host of other "old electronics issues" Send it off to Beker for repair, have them add an Ipod jack and 100$ or so later you have correct working radio. The output will never match modern stereos - just saying and that 72 really needs euros ...like mine :) |
On another forum a someone questioned the clock. MPs '72 is older than this one and mine is newer. Mine does not match the one pictured.
|
Just think what it would be worth if he could write in paragraphs.
|
yes the clock is not original, I noticed that too
|
A couple of other things. Seat belts have been replaced with later model. The battery cable and the vacuum tube from the throttle body to the switch over valve are wrapped.
I also question the heater blower cover. It looks plastic instead of metal. Wonder if the sub-frame problem has been addressed. By the way. It is listed on Hemmings for $32,500.00 Mercedes-Benz 350SL for sale | Hemmings Motor News |
man we are alwful picky...:)
20 grand and did not take it ....I'd sell mine for 20 in this economy in a heartbeat , well - several heartbeats, well ...let me say I'd consider it :) |
A 107 for 30K+ should be original. Anything less decreases the value. When parts like the muffler are replaced they need to be OE if available.
|
That doesn't seem plausible that someone would turn down $20k for that car. Most likely fraud, they shill bid it up near the reserve and then hope that someone will bite and push it over. Look how early the first $20k bid.
|
yea that is always suspect. I thougth the same thing. I'd love to find out who the top bidders were and contact them to see if they would like to consider another option , like I said I'd make a heck of a deal on "Pearl"
Of course to the right buyer |
Doesn't it seem strange that a car with only 34k miles on it should have needed upper control arms, a sway bar, tie rods, a water pump, and a radiator, even if the car did sit in a garage for a while?
