A bit bummed...

I was able to get Baby out only a few times last year due to weather and work obligations. Prior to gaining custody of the kids, we took the car on one of our many trips to my mom's and back. There's nothing more satisfying than driving a 107.

Due to health issues, I'm still unable to drive until at least late July. I haven't been behind the wheel of any vehicle since the second week of January, which is whole 'nother story on it's own.

I had my wife run out to the storage unit the start the old girl up, and she wouldn't start for her. I had her prime the pumps a few times to get fuel pressure up, thinking that the check valve, which has been a bit problematic in the past, had been the culprit.

She ended up draining the battery. She can't get close enough for a jump, as the car is tail first into the unit. She can't get a charger on it, because we're not allowed to use any of the exterior outlets, and they have locked covers on them. My only option was to pull the battery, which is too heavy for her to do, so I called the storage unit owner and had him give her a hand.

As soon as I can get up and around, I'm going to put the charged battery back in (it's only 1.5 years old), then check the cap and rotor. Since my wife told me that she smelled fuel, then it's a spark issue. I know it's getting plenty of O2...it's almost impossible NOT to get air when the filter is new.

I'm hoping by mid June that I'll have enough balance back to be able to do this so my wife can at least get her out and rotate the wheels a bit...I'm fearing flat spots, since I didn't store it on stands this winter.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. There is a jump point you can use under the hood. Its the terminal where the battery cable terminates and any solid ground.

LOL If I could be there to supervise, things would be different.

With the weather getting warmer, with the exception of this week (snowy mix falling tomorrow), I've been suffering from sever cabin fever. I'm sick of piloting from the easy chair

You sound like my wife...LOL

You're right, though. My main fear is the damage to the car from not running...

Her main fear is that I may not ever get well enough and have to go on disability for life.

I like my fear over hers...

Mercedes Benz's have road side assistance for the life of the vehicle -- call the number in the glove box and have them come out to give you a jump.

Not any longer. Once out of warranty you have to take the car in for MB service periodically.

JP, you need to find a kindred spirit so you could help each other out in these kinds of circumstances.

From the fuel smell it may also be flooded; since it's been in storage, check the air cleaner to be sure something hasn't built a nest in there.

Good luck with the cast and, more importantly, the health.

thanks - just looked it up -- I guess all good things must come to an end - too bad, that had put MB above every other manufacturer. I usually do oil changes at the dealer (just to have a relationship there) so I guess I am still eligible. Still, if you join triple A you can get a jump and that only costs about $50 a year.

I wouldn't trust the yahoos that drive for AAA around here to locate the jump points inder the hood, buch less change a tire.

Hope all turns out well ! As far as the whole battery issue, I think you might find with a fully charged battery that all is well. I wouldn't jump one of the late model Benz's for anything. All is takes is a mistake, and your 401k is a 301k ! In my life I've seen dozens of goofs screw up things with jumper cables. Mostly alternators, and even one battery with the top blown off ! Since the battery is out and being charged, I'd stick with that !
