450SL Visors

I love the 107 for its style and tank like build quality....but, the visor design sucks....most of them look like saggy old flags! They are ridiculously expensive (clips and/or visors).

I can't believe MB came up with this design and then kept it for 20 years! Worst part of the car!

The price for a new set is insane. The repop's are crazy expensive. I can't believe someone didn't come up with something much better for the money instead of reproducing the same crap which will fail in less than 5 years.

It's sad when my 1956 Ford truck visors are close to the same design but so much better! They are still intact 56 years later, they don't flop, they don't look like deflated balloons....I think the big problem was MB embraced the age of plastics before they had any idea how shortlived most plastics are in a high heat / high UV environment.

I think what I will do is reuse the arms and build a new visor body out of something other than foam filled vinyl. Not sure what to do with the clips,
they are pretty worthless down here in TX. I like the concept of what MB
wanted to do, keep the design clean but if it is illegal to remove the visor
the only position you want them in is up or down. Blocking light from the side
is not an issue if the top is off, so a more fixed mount might be better.

What Walrus said. I have not read of anyone using 560SL visors on an earlier model so I don't know if they are a bolt on replacement.

Thanks Guys.

The foam injection is a nice idea. The $100 trip to the upholestry shop is great, but I have not seen posted what was done, no pix.

The subject has been expounded on ad nauseum...I was venting more than anything.

I do like the BMW suggestion for mounting.
