What's This Sticking Out of My IVC...?
Hi All, I have searched with no results that match. 1982 380SL with 35,000 miles. I have been experiencing a miss at idle so I started checking for vacuum leaks, etc. and eventually pulled the ICV to clean. Upon closer inspection of the ICV there appears to be a piece of what may be plastic or rubber partially protruding from the interior of the valve. Is this part of the valve? Should I tuck it back in or remove it? Any suggestions, recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

I've never noticed anything like that and I've had mine apart a few times. I can only assume it is part of the sealing mechanism of the ICV so I'd say shove it back.
OTOH, if the ICV is working correctly now....well, if it aint broke, don't fix it. |

Pulled and cleaned the valve from my '84 380SL parts car. There is nothing like what your picture indicates inside there. I picked and probed but nothing.

Thanks for the response guys!
I'm going to pull the plastic on Sunday and see what happens!

I finally found time to remove the plastic 'piece' that was inside my Idle Control Valve which has resulted the idle no longer being eratic. I will have to go back and check the duty cycle as the idle is now low at 500 RPM's. I have no idea where the black plastic came from, but is it gone now...
Thank you for the responses!
