Need ideas for Becker 754 speakers

Friends,

I just purchased a 1986 SL. It has the original Becker 754, but the under-the-dash front speakers are terrible....like they've been blown out or something.

I'd like to retain the original Becker but get new front speakers and put 2 speakers in the cargo shelf.

Any ideas on which speakers will give me the biggest bang for my buck? As well as any gotchas I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks

I used Alpine SPS-400 for the dash speakers - the passenger side one was a bit of a challenge to fit due to depth. I wired the rear deck without cutting holes. I used cabinets to mount a pair of Kenwood 6x9's that I had on hand. I will eventually replace these with an Alpine component set in smaller cabinets.

I do not have a fader installed. I have the Becker part and wiring figured out; reluctant to cut the console to install it. I also do not have an amplifier other than the primitive one behind the glovebox (part of Becker Europa II).

The sound is great - no cutting - options to modify and replace as technology evolves.

Thanks Brad. You're the man.

Is the wiring on the back of the 754 all that hard to figure out, if I'm not installing anything other than new rear speakers?

Take a look at this site -- info on lots of Becker Radios!

When I replaced my radio (there was an aftermarket radio installed) I may have bought new speaker wires and a wiring harness from here. I found and installed a Becker 1480 as the look is similar but the antitheft sytem allows for a code to be entered rather than needing the reset device at the dealership (not sure if the dealers even have them anymore)
